| This governorate is Oman’s newest. Until October 2006, what is now known as the Al Buraimi governorate was merely a part of the Al Dahirah region of the Sultanate. This region is divided into three wilayas (states): Al Buraimi, Mahdah, and Al Sinaihah. |

| Al Buraimi
hotels: The wilaya of Al Buraimi is around 350km northwest of Muscat, which borders Al Ain city in the UAE. Al Buraimi, an oasis area, is the regional centre of the governorate. It is famous for quite a few forts, like the forts of Al Hillah, Al Fayyadh, Hafeet, and Wadi al Jizzi. However, the most important one is the fort of Al Khandaq, which is the official emblem of the wilaya. Many of the forts have recently been renovated by the Ministry of National Heritage and Culture. The most well known historic house is called Bait Bahr. |

| The villages of Al Buraimi's obtain their water from 49 “falajes,” which is ideal given one of the most important occupations in the wilaya of Al Buraimi is farming, the main crops being dates, lime, and other fruits. Cattle-breeding is also common. |

The wilaya of Mahdhah is bordered by the Al Buraimi wilaya one side, and by United Arab Emirates, by the emirates of Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman and Ras al Khaimah to another. To the east, mountain chains separate it from the region of Batinah. It has 99 villages which house 9002 inhabitants. The local occupations are weaving and spinning palm products. |

| The first ever Arab ambassador to the United States was Ahmed bin Nu'man al Ka'abi who acquired that position in 1840. He was a native of this wilaya. |

| The touristic attractions of this area include the historic forts of Ubul, Bait al Nad, al Khabib and Qala'at Sharm; other areas you might want to visit when taking a break from your hotel in Al Buraimi are Wadi Sharm, Wadi al Qahafi, al Lajj, Uyul, al Ubailah, al Khadhra, al Jazira and Jabal al Howraa. |
