| Al Ahmadi, named after Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah - who ruled the province from 1921 to 1956 - is one of the six governorates of Kuwait. It is around 20km south of Kuwait City. |

Al Ahmadi is a major contributor to Kuwaiti economy; it is the headquarters of the Kuwait National Petroleum Company, and it’s also called the “home of the KOC” (Kuwait Oil Companies) since many of the country’s oil refineries are based there. An old pier was built at one of the refineries in 1948, and it was modernized in 1985, with a design that can handle tankers with around 160000 tons, whereas the old one held tankers 60000 tons lighter.
